With a win over Radek Stepanek Roger Federer over took Pete's career prize money of $ 43,280,489.
Roger has now earned $43,300,847 in prize money.
mmm...
I think besides the higher prize offered by the tourneys, we also have to calculate in the inflation.
But in any case, Roger should surpass Pete on this one before he retires anyway. it is a matter of time.
yes i read that in the atp site, not sure what the question is but now the money prices are higher than before and they keep growing so that record it's gonna be broken a lot of times, not necessary meaning that the player who breaks it has a lot more achievements than the previous one, do you imagine how much money connors would've won with his 108 titles if the prices were the same as they're now? wow :)
i'm not saying he doesn't deserve it, of course he does, i'm saying that in , lets say 5 years, there's gonna be some players holding the record with a lot less achievements than fed and sampras
can i have 1% of that amount
Total career prize money is always a bogus stat because the prize money is always increasing for each event, so Federer gets more prize money for a Wimbledon win than Sampras ever did.
In fact it's not even a good way to compare players from the same era, because not every player enters every tournament, and a player who gets knocked out in the semifinals of a bunch of tournaments but never wins will out-earn someone who wins one or two tournaments and gets knocked out early in some others. Plus some players get appearance fees for competing in smaller tournaments.
Of course, Federer is a fantastic player and his accomplishments are incredibly impressive, but prize money is far from the best way to prove that.
